Riverdancing!

Hello all!

Found this really neat video of some good riverdancing… with the girls in long skirts! I thought that was pretty awesome, so I am sharing it with y’all. Enjoy!

  1. The narration at the beginning was kinda weird. πŸ˜€

I love Celtic music. And that dance looks like a good cardio workout.

Teehee… good ol’ folk dancing. That’d be neat to have a community where everyone could come together and do stuff like that.

  2. Okay Jay I said I would show you a video of what we do well here it is. The video is not the greatest but it is good enough for you to see what we do. http://vimeo.com/12439801

    • I’m the ugly fellow dancing with the girl in the wonderful blue dress. If you wanted to know

    • Ha! I will keep an eye out for you. πŸ™‚

    • Thanks! I will definitely watch that. πŸ™‚

    • I watched it! Looks like tons of fun. I want to learn how to dance.

    • I think I could teach you via email. All you need is to be able to clap and have eight people (which makes up four couples, you need not in a private setting at least have 4 boys and 4 girls, but in a public setting it is probably best) who are willing to spend little while going over instructions.

I can also teach you several other dances: such as Marie’s wedding, the Sausage machine (which is one of my favorites, but a little difficult to explain without being in person), Comical Fellow, etc, etc.

I think your family would love it and if you got it down you could host an event at your church like we do over here and show everyone how it is done.

Also as a final point, some of us at our church are *considering* putting videos together on how to do each dance.

    • I could probably learn the dance itself over email, but how to dance in the first place might be a bit more difficult. πŸ˜›

    • You can clap right? If you can then you can dance, at least you can dance the Virginia Reel (which is the one in the video).

Try listening to the music and clapping single time. Then double it, if you can do that then I don’t see why you can’t dance. All your doing as you dance is ‘skipping’ with the song. One step for every half beat (I’ll have to listen to it again but I’m pretty sure the song is four four time, which makes things easier).

    • Haha, I can sort of clap, if I think really hard about it. πŸ˜‰

Guess I just need to practice. πŸ™‚

  3. Love it! Riverdance is the absolute best! They have lost a good bit of pure dancing and production value since the departure of of Michael Flatley, but they are more wholesome without him (I don’t recommend them back in the Flatley days) and that makes up for it and they are still crazy good. πŸ™‚

  4. That looks like so much fun – a mix of contra dancing and Irish dancing! I love the way it looks with long skirts, too. I Irish dance, and we have our skirts come to just below our knees. It’s really hard to dance (softshoe, anyway) with anything longer, but this group does it really well!

  5. Btw, at Ethan S….am I crazy or are y’all dancing to music for the barn raising dance (and fight! haha) in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers in the video you posted?

  6. We also do Marie’s wedding, as well as several others. This is only one of about ten dances that we do.
